Amaka Ekwo is an Educator, Igbo Highlife, Afrobeats, Afropop music composer, songwriter and singer.

 

Her music consists of Igbo musical instruments, jazz horns, and multiple guitars, which give an up-tempo and synthesized-driven sound.

 

Her paternal grandmother and father are both composers and singers. 

​

Amaka has loved music since childhood and occasionally sang in church, school, and college to entertain audiences.

​

In 2008 she recorded her first album Omalicha and has since recorded and released more songs and albums.

​

She is from a political family and is interested in human rights. Some of her songs carry messages of injustice, hope, love, and freedom.

 

She is passionate about the history of the effect of the Biafran War on the Igbo people in Nigeria.
